SOLVING PROBLEMS AS A DESIGN ENGINEER

As a mechanical design engineer. Providing the customer with custom designed equipment to fit their needs. Problem solving is always a part of the process to achieve this goal. Once the design is in place. The next step is to provide the shop personnel with a noninteractive interface in the form of detailed drawings. Some designs require drawing that are not a standard format. This requires research questions to shop personnel. To create a user-friendly interface. In this example a weldment needed to be fabricated first before it was to be machined to tolerance. This was not the normal workflow for a typical application. After questioning the fabricator and machinist that were tasked to complete this part. Creating hatching to represent material to be removed by the machinist after fabrication along with pattern notes was developed. This allowed for a single drawing to show information needed for multiple users.
